Dua for Sehri (Roza Rakhnay Ki Dua) in Arabic, English & Hadith Reference

Sehri (Suhoor) is a blessed time before Fajr during Ramadan. It is the moment when Muslims prepare for fasting and make their intention (niyyah) for the day.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Take Suhoor, for indeed there is blessing in it.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)

This shows the importance of eating Suhoor before beginning the fast.

Many Muslims recite a Sehri ki dua (وبصوم غد نويت من شهر رمضان) to verbally express their intention for fasting. However, it is important to understand that reciting a specific dua is not required. Allah knows your niyyah, and simply intending in your heart to fast for the sake of Allah is sufficient.

Commonly Recited Sehri Dua

Many Muslims recite the following wording before closing their fast:

dua for sehri

Arabic:

وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَّوَيْتُ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ

Transliteration:

“Wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri Ramadan”

English Translation:

“I intend to keep the fast for the month of Ramadan.”

Important Reminder:

Reciting a dua at Sehri is a good deed. However, if you forget to say it, your fast is still valid.

Fasting requires niyyah (intention). If you wake up for Sehri, eat before Fajr, and intend in your heart to fast, that is enough.

When you hear the Adhan of Fajr and stop eating with the intention of fasting, your fast is valid.

What Should You Do at Sehri?

  • Make a sincere intention in your heart

  • Eat Suhoor (it is Sunnah and full of blessings)

  • Make personal dua

  • Do dhikr of Allah

  • Ask Allah for strength and acceptance

Sehri is a blessed time. Use it to seek forgiveness and begin your fast with sincerity.
