Women Rights:

There were times within the human history when only, men were thought of the middle of the universe, strong and powerful; whereas the women were thought of lesser beings with no social or human rights and who only were served as a way of subservience and sexual gratification to men.

Can Women have Rights in Islam:

The answer is yes. There are many women’s rights and responsibilities under Islam according to many Hadith.

Women Rights in Quran:

O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer. [Quran 4:1]

The Status Of Women Before Islam:

There is no rights of women before Islam. Women are salve and treated like an animals.

However, The situation was first changed or modified fourteen hundred years past when Islam appeared within the land of Arabia.

From its initial days,

Islam worked on making equality among individuals and tried to eliminate the various barriers created by those that distinguished men and women from each other and allow them to feel superior or inferior.

  1. Status of Women After Islam:

With the arrival of Islam, things began to get modification everywhere the globe generally and Arabia specifically, concerning the rights of women. Many people ask this question, do men and women have equal rights in Islam? Islam supports women’s rights and considered women as an equal member of the society; gave them their due respect; and allotted them roles referring to their stature.

Allah Almighty says in the Quran:

Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so – for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward. [Quran 33:35]

  1. The Right to Knowledge:

Women rights in education is equal to men. Both women and men are equal to each other and they both are encouraged to seek education and knowledge. There are equal rights of education for women in Islam according to Hadith.

The Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) said,

“Education is compulsory for every Muslim.”

  1. Women rights to choose spouse wisely:

Islam has given complete right to women for choosing her husband wisely, same as men rights in society. Islam honored women by providing them with the right of getting married and right to choose a spouse to live a happy and prosperous life.

It is prohibited in Islam that, no one can force women about their marriage; they can decide whatever they like. Women’s rights in Islam marriage is define already 1400 years ago.

At the time of Prophet (P.B.U.H), a woman came to him and said that,

“My father has married me to my cousin to raise his social standing and I was forced into it.”

The Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H), sent for the girl’s father and then in his presence, gave the girl an option of remaining married or nullifying the marriage. She responded to Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H),

“O Messenger of Allah, I have accepted what my father did, but I wanted to show other women (that they could not be forced into a marriage).”

  1. Role of Daughter and Sister:

The other role that ladies have compelled to play in the very Muslim society is that of daughters and sisters. Islam ensures that in each of these roles ladies get pleasure from utmost care, respect and protection.

Moreover, brother and sister relation is beautiful and very respectful; it’s revered in Islam, and it’s obligatory for brothers and sisters to respect and treat one another well.

Allah Almighty says in the Quran:

“He bestows female (offspring) upon whom He wills, and bestows male (offspring) upon whom He wills.”(42:49)

  1. Women as wives:

Another most important role of women is a role of a wife, which brings respect and honor to women. Islam is the first religion that brings and establishes the basic rights of women as wives.

Allah Almighty​ says in Quran:

“And among His signs is this, that He created wives from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquility, with them, and He put love and mercy between your (hearts).”(30:21)

Additionally,

“They are like a garment to you and you are like a garment to them.” (2:187)

  1. Role of Women in Islam:

With the passage of time, all the false stereotypes were changed and challenged. Being pious and virtuous is the most enduring role of women in Islam.

As i mentioned earlier that before the arrival of Islam, women were treated very badly; piety was not something given to them; therefore they were forced to live their lives in tyranny and ignorance. Islam stated that women should stay pious and virtuous, and should follow all the principals of Islam. There are certain women’s duties as a wife in Islam.

Allah Almighty stated that:

“O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of male and female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you in the Sigh of Allah is (the one who is) the most God-fearing.” (49:13)

Moreover,

“Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, and has faith, verily, to him will We give a life that is good and pure, and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions.” (16:97)

  1. Basic Rights of Woman upon Her Husband:

    9. A man should not boycott her, hate her, dislike her or get angry on her faults.
    10. He should help her in her work and make things easy for her like, all the chores.
    11. The man should protect her wife, and provide her with a good healthy life.
    12. He should deal her with love and show some manners while talking to her.

Conclusion:

Before the arrival of Islam, women were considered shameful; prostitution was rampant at that time; divorce was only in the hands of the husband; and inheritance was only for the strong.

Islam came and abolished all these false practices. Even now, in most of the “developed countries”, women are not granted dignity, respect and honor. The mistreatment and disrespect of women in some Middle-Eastern countries and in many Muslim countries are due to cultural factors and bad circumstances. Rights of women are very strict in Golf and other European countries.
